Digital Control Inc. DSP Consultation

MicroWise Solutions’ principal, Shiu, was Senior Digital Signal Processing Engineer at DCI for 5 years. During this period he designed many products such as the ones displayed below. He is also the inventor and co-inventor of 8 patents as a result of the research work done there.

Shiu is currently doing consulting work for DCI in the areas of Digital Signal Processing and precision, low-noise, wide dynamic range analog circuit designs.

An advanced hand-held tracking device for underground horizontal directional drilling.

With the help of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and a Power PC processor, directional drilling steering is as simple as putting the drill inside the target. It's simple, and it's fool-proof.

IGPS TransiTrak system

The (In Ground Positioning System) TransiTrak system is used in non-walkover applications such as river and freeway crossing.

Shiu invented this circuit board-based, 3-axis receiving and transmitting antenna assembly (US patent 6,005,532.)

This antenna is used in all Eclipse and TransiTrak units.

A DSP-based receiving module recovers the signal from an underground transmitter. The signal is used to calculate the underground drill head location and to decode roll, pitch, and other vital information.

The extremely low noise (0.9 nV per root herts) pre-amp board provides over 80 dB of digitally programmable gain and low-pass anti-alias filtering.

A cabled version of the down-hole transmitter. The locating range is extended to well over 150 feet deep.
